You'll find The Lamb tucked down the end of Lamb's Conduit Street and a short 10 minute stroll from Holborn and Russell Square tubes. The street is also home to one of my favourite bike shops - Bikefix - home to all manner of weird and wonderful urban bikes.
The street and pub are named after William Lamb, a philanthropist from the 16th century who improved the local water supply - so nothing to do with sheep, despite the woolly face staring at you from the sign outside.
Although not entirely untouched by progress, it's still a nice example of a Victorian pub, retaining much of the original feel - including the weird glass privacy screens between you and the bar staff. It also has a Polyphon in one corner - a sort of music box affair which the staff will set going for a small donation to a local charity.
The beer is Youngs - plus the odd guest ale - so around about now the Winter Warmer will be available - which is gorgeous.
My good friend Dr Steve tried the food - he wasn't impressed - so maybe stick to crisps and beer?
Friendly, warm and inviting.
