It is pleasing to note that the Godzilla of the Web Google Inc and banking behemoth HSBC are joining forces. Their union is for a good cause - providing high speed internet to the next 3 billion who are under the digital dividing line. The audience is mainly in Africa and other emerging markets. This seems to be a clever move for a bank to get involved in the project. It should give HSBC a leading advantage in capturing a slice of the underbanked sector.

Cheap high speed internet access coupled with cheap mobile phones will make banking ubiquitous and bring a major portion of the world's population into the financial services world.
