It’s that time of year when new graduates will be updating their CVs and sending out covering letters in the attempt to find a job and get their career off to a flying start. But as this article in the Guardian says http://www.guardian.co.uk/education/2008/aug/19/students.highereducation, you must get it right if you want to keep your chances of securing that job. Spelling mistakes are cited as the one error that can lead to automatic rejection of your application, and one which can be easily avoided. Examples of other no-no’s include: ending a covering letter with “Hope to hear from you shorty”, saying “i relax and chill” as their strategy for solving problems and claiming “I possess excellent memory skills, good analytical skills, memory skills…” You may laugh, but sadly these are all true! So remember the golden rules – always check for mistakes and get someone else to proof-read for you.
