As we hurtle towards a cashless future – a future vastly accelerated by Covid-19 – it’s an exciting time to work in the banking and finance sector. Traditional banking systems have been disrupted by digital-only banks. Mobile wallet services such as Apple Pay and Google Pay are now mainstream, as are payment apps like Monzo and Revolut, and investment banking and direct lending is more accessible through various fintech start-ups.

Going up

Those working in cybersecurity, cloud computing, AI and machine learning, data analytics, data science, blockchain, software engineering or compliance are in luck. Fintech is growing and the more it does, the more companies are seeking talent.

In fintech, the culture can be fast-paced, and there is often more opportunity to be creative than in traditional finance organisations. Roles in the sector are usually accompanied by generous pay scales too, as attractive compensation packages are required to attract highly-specialised and skilled talent in such a competitive industry. Storm2 reports that fintech execs expect to be paid a minimum £110K in the UK, with chief data scientists reaching salary highs comparable to CTOs.

Join the club

Currently digital banking companies, finance organisations and fintechs are all competing for staff that have a strong financial services background. So, if you're in the industry, the world is your remote oyster. But who are the market leaders and who is currently hiring?

The Finextra Job Board is your go-to for comprehensive listings, but let’s take a closer look at three exciting roles currently on offer.
