Having led the business through a period of significant transformation over the past 18 months, Susie Aliker has informed the Board of her intention to step down in the coming months.

The Board has appointed Alex Mollart as Tandem Bank’s Chief Executive designate (subject to regulatory approval) as part of the Bank’s orderly succession plans. Alex is currently the bank’s Deputy CEO, and the founder and former-CEO of Oplo, the successful consumer lender acquired by Tandem in early 2022.

Susie will work with Alex over the coming months, supporting him as he steps up into the Chief Executive role, ensuring a smooth transition for the business.

Susie Aliker joined Tandem as Chief Executive in May 2021 following the bank’s acquisition of green consumer lender Allium Money. Susie also led the bank’s subsequent acquisition of consumer lender Oplo, which completed in early 2022, creating a strong platform for future growth and positioning Tandem as a fast growing, digital bank with a purpose driven strategy focused on the transition to Net Zero.

Critically, during Susie’s time as CEO, Tandem has become profitable, delivered growth in both deposit and lending balances and completed critical elements of the integration of both Allium and Oplo into the bank. Tandem now has a clear path to achieving scale and sustained profitability as the UK’s greener digital bank.

Alex Mollart is the Founder and former Chief Executive of Oplo. He became Deputy Chief Executive of Tandem following the acquisition of Oplo.

Alex established Oplo in 2004, building Oplo into one of the UK’s leading consumer lenders, delivering exceptional growth and profitability over more than 15 years, before the business combined with Tandem.

Commenting on the announcement, Tandem Chairman-Designate, Paul Pester said,

“Susie has led Tandem through a period of significant transformation. Under her leadership the bank has made fantastic progress and Susie will leave the bank in a strong position, with a refreshed strategy, and a robust platform for future growth.

“The Board would like to thank Susie for leading the Bank and we wish her every success in her future roles.

“I am delighted Alex will be stepping up as Chief Executive at Tandem. His track record is impressive and, as Susie’s Deputy, he has helped establish Tandem’s platform for future success since the business combination earlier this year.”

Susie Aliker said, “Tandem today has a strong and successful business model and is well positioned as the bank for a greener future. It has been an exciting and successful journey leading Tandem, using my banking and finance experience to build a profitable fintech business, and now is the right time for me to do something different. I leave the bank with a strong leadership team, a profitable and growing business, and a clear and differentiated strategy which will continue to benefit our customers and the planet”.

Alex Mollart said, “I’m really excited to be stepping up as Tandem Chief Executive. I am passionate about Tandem’s potential to be a positive force in digital banking.

“We’ve already shown the power of bringing Oplo and Tandem together and, with our exciting tech platform and expertise in green lending, the foundations are in place to deliver on our ambition to be the UK’s greener, digital bank.

“I would also like to thank Susie – she has been an amazing partner and mentor to me in our time working together and I wish her every success in the future.”
