Chilexpress operates more than 175 locations throughout Chile and has offered Western Union's international money transfer service for more than ten years. The addition of domestic money transfer services means that consumers in Chile now have the same fast and convenient options when sending funds to locations within their own borders.

"Chilexpress and Western Union have a long history of success and growth in the international money transfer market," said Christina Gold, president, Western Union Financial Services, Inc. "Western Union's wealth of knowledge about domestic money transfer markets around the world will help develop this business within Chile, expanding our services and bringing even greater convenience and choice to consumers."

As economic and social climates change, many countries have seen traditional remittance patterns change. With its extensive agent network in more than 200 countries and territories around the world, Western Union is uniquely positioned to respond to these trends. The robust, global agent infrastructure has enabled countries that were traditionally "receive only" to quickly and easily become sending countries, and allowed others, such as Chile, to add domestic transfers in a market that was primarily international.

Money transfer transactions are sent domestically for a variety of reasons including financial aid in emergency situations, and regular support of friends and family members. In addition to its launch with Chilexpress, Western Union plans to initiate domestic money transfer at other select Western Union Agent locations in Chile within the year.
