Singtel is expanding the payment capabilities of its all-in-one mobile payments app, Dash, to include international mobile payments. Dash customers are now able to use their Visa Virtual Account on the Dash app at millions of online retailers worldwide and merchant points that accept Visa Contactless Payments.
In addition, customers can also use Dash on Apple Pay, making it the first non-bank mobile wallet in Singapore on Apple’s easy, secure and private payments system.
Mr Gilbert Chuah, Head of mCommerce, International Group at Singtel, said “This is a game changer for the mobile wallet scene in Singapore especially with the rising popularity of travel and online shopping among Singaporeans. Everyone can simply download Dash regardless of their telco, and enjoy shopping online and in-store at millions of merchants globally - perfect for the festive season. We’re pleased to provide the convenience and security of a truly global mobile wallet to everyone.”
Mr Kunal Chatterjee, Visa Country Manager for Singapore & Brunei said, “We are excited to extend our partnership with Singtel to provide mobile contactless payments that consumers want. Mobile contactless payments have been growing steadily and, today, over 70 per cent of all Visa transactions are contactless payments, made either through a physical card or mobile device. Dash’s Visa Virtual Account gives all customers, including those without physical credit cards, a safe and secure way to make online or offline payments with our global merchant partners. This collaboration with Singtel reflects our commitment to provide consumers with the best digital payment experience possible.”
Dash’s Visa Virtual Account, the first of its kind in Singapore, was introduced last year and has since enabled international payments to meet consumers’ changing lifestyle needs. With Dash also available on Apple Pay, customers including youths, can shop at their favourite online stores and apps, subscribe to digital content as well as tap and pay in-store using any NFC-enabled smartphone or Apple device at participating Visa and Apple Pay merchants worldwide - all without the need of an actual debit or credit card.
To start paying on their mobile, customers can just sign in on the Dash app and top-up their Dash Visa accounts. The cap on mobile wallet expenditures reduces the risk of exposing bank accounts or credit limits to fraud, giving customers peace of mind while shopping. In addition, customers can keep track of expenses through in-app notifications each time a transaction is made.
With over half a million registered users, Singtel Dash is the only all-in-one mobile payments solution in Singapore that allows users to commute, shop and send money locally and overseas. It is available to everyone, regardless of telco or banking relationship or device model. Last month, Singtel debuted VIA, Asia’s first cross-border mobile payment alliance, in Thailand. This enables customers to make QR code-based payments with Dash at small and mid-sized merchants outside Singapore. The alliance will progressively be expanded to other countries in the region.
