The agreement was signed by CEO and Chairman of the Executive Board of Sberbank, Herman Gref, and Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum, Professor Klaus Schwab, today

CEO and Chairman of the Executive Board of Sberbank Herman Gref:

“In 2017, the World Economic Forum ranked cybercrime as the third most important global risk, while terrorist attacks are only at the 8th place. But, everywhere in the world, people are still more afraid of terrorists in the physical reality, than those in cyberspace. The Forum was one of the first international organisations to understand the danger of the growing threat of cybercrime. Being the largest bank in Russia and Eastern Europe, Sberbank is one of the prime targets of global cybercriminals and is the most attacked company in the region. The high-level risk urged us to create the complex cybersecurity ecosystem in Sberbank Group that allowed us to ward off 100% of attacks in 2017. Given the global scale of cyberthreat, we understand the importance of relevant knowledge and competence exchange. That’s why today we gladly accept the invitation by the Forum to become the first Founding Partner of the Centre and aim at long-term effective cooperation with its other members.”

The C4C is the first platform for collaboration of global business leaders, major international cybersecurity organizations and representatives of law enforcement agencies to lead the fight against global cybercrime.

The main areas of C4C activities will be:
- development of automated exchange of data on actual cyberthreats, based on dedicated platform solutions;
- establishment of a global network for cooperation among Computer Emergency Response Teams (CERTs);
- elaboration of a strategy and definition of key areas of cybersecurity development;
- foundation of a global Think Tank for gathering of data on the current situation in cyberspace and its further distribution among the world community.

Sberbank is the only representative of the Russian business community at the C4C and will actively cooperate with world leaders in all aforementioned areas as the Founding Partner of the Centre.

Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum Professor Klaus Schwab:

“Cybercrime is a reality that we cannot afford to ignore, nor neglect that it is threatening the benefits of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. At the Forum’s Centre for Cybersecurity experts from business, public sector, law enforcement and civil society will work towards a society that can withstand these challenges and minimize the damage done by organized digital crime.”

Sberbank is entitled to actively participate in the C4C projects, to have a permanent seat in the Global Cybersecurity Board, the foremost oversight body of the Centre, to nominate executives and members to the expert committees. Sberbank Group’s specialists will take part in implementation of the WEF C4C’s initiatives, including technical support of the Centre in its headquarters in Geneva.

The World Economic Forum Centre for Cybersecurity was officially launched at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos on January 25, 2018. Since the very beginning, Sberbank has been actively engaged in preparing and developing the concept of the Centre. This year, the Forum’s representatives held the first panel discussion on the development of international cooperation against global cybercrime at the International Cybersecurity Congress (ICC), organised by Sberbank on July 5-6 in Moscow. There Sberbank and the Forum also signed the Letter of Intent to continue cooperation in this area.
