Android Pay is a mobile payment solution offering users simplicity, security and choice to pay for goods and services using only their Android smartphone, whether in-store or in-app.

Judo’s AppCommerce™ platform will support Android Pay for in-app purchases of physical goods and services. With a single integration, businesses with mobile applications for Android devices can support Android Pay and traditional card payments.
Setting up Android Pay on a compatible device is simple. Consumers first need to have the Android Pay app downloaded on to their phones, and then add a card from any participating bank. After setting up, consumers can simply tap the ‘Buy with Android Pay button’ to complete a purchase without manually entering payment, billing and shipping information. This cuts out critical points of friction that are slowing the widespread adoption of mobile commerce.

The UK launch of Android Pay follows last year’s successful roll-out in the US and has been highly anticipated by loyal Android users across the UK. The launch of Android Pay is expected to have a significant impact on mobile payments in the UK, with Android penetration currently reported at 51.9 per cent*. Android Pay will be supported on all Android devices running the ‘KitKat’ operating system or more recent. This means a majority of phones purchased since 2013 will automatically support this secure, convenient payment option.

Spencer Spinnell, Director, Business Development at Google, said, “Integrating Android Pay with judo will make it easier for businesses of all sizes to streamline their checkout experience, by offering their customers a simpler, faster in-app payment experience.”

Dennis Jones, CEO of judo, said, “Android Pay’s launch in the UK brings quick, seamless and secure mobile payments to millions. We’re looking forward to working with Google to empower businesses to reduce payments friction. This is a significant step in the move to mobile and 2016 is set to be a big year for mobile payments.”
