NFC tags can really simplify your daily life by automating routine tasks. Once the tag is programmed to perform a certain task, all you have to do is wave the phone near the NFC tag area to get the task done.

„For example, you can encode a tag to activate GPS," says Tiit Tammiste, CTO at EMT. „If you put this tag in the cell phone holder in the car, you no longer have to activate the navigation app every time you are driving. Or, you can activate Bluetooth to pair your headset with your cell phone."

NFC tags are small sticker-like tags that contain a small microchip, which can be programmed to perform a certain task. To write to NFC tags, you need to download an app called "EMT NFC Starter" from Google Play.

„One of fields of application of NFC is managing M2M services, like opening turnpikes or garage doors. Also, such a simple thing as calling can be made easier with NFC, if, for example, you are calling to a certain person on a regular basis. NFC tags can also help elderly people who can place calls to a family member by simply touching a tag," Tammiste added.

The prices for NFC-enabled phones start from €99. Currently, there are 22 different NFC-phones available at EMT. The number of NFC-enabled phones in the EMT network is approximately 20,000.

NFC tags are available at EMT stores and online.

In the spring, EMT, in cooperation with leading Estonian banks, will also launch a NFC mobile payments project to test mobile wallet solutions and possibilities.
