SCL, the world's leading independent prepaid and foreign exchange point of sale systems provider, has achieved PCI DSS Level 1 Service Provider certification.
Now retailers, banks, shopping malls, bureau de change and travel agencies can access a fully approved PCI compliant system to manage the activation and sale of their prepaid, gift and travel money cards as well as foreign exchange services.
The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) is a set of technical and operational requirements designed to ensure that all companies that process, store or transmit card information maintain the safe handling of cardholder data at every step. Covering 6 major security goals, tied to 12 specific requirements, relating to over 200 separate compliance checks - it represents a significant investment in time and resource. One of the few companies in Europe to have achieved Level 1 compliance as a service provider, SCL was assessed by independent Qualified Security Assessor (QSA), Blackfoot UK.
Jonathan Turner, SCL Director of Operations comments, "Security is essential for anyone providing prepaid or travel money related services - they must use a compliant provider now - or else face breaches, fines and loss of reputation. SCL has issued more than 30 million prepaid cards on its UltraPoS platform, and handles millions of transactions every year for merchants, acquirers and issuers of all sizes. We are well aware of the challenges they face. By offering a pre-approved PCI DSS system, we can now ensure their prepaid operations are compliant, while improving customer protection and increasing their brand reputation.
Commenting on the process Turner adds, "Achieving PCI DSS compliance is no mean feat. It involves significant investment in technology, processes, people and product/service. Without it, however, companies can no longer accept card payments. With full certification, we can now meet our current and future global customers' mandatory demands for PCI for all card data - covering them in the face of tightening regulatory requirements; and giving their heir customers total peace of mind when purchasing prepaid cards or foreign exchange."
