VeriFone Holdings (NYSE: PAY) today announced the Vx 810 DUET, a 2-in-1 payment system that incorporates a sleek and secure consumer-activated, hand-held device tethered to a clerk-facing base unit.
The Vx 810 DUET's base features the same receipt printing and enhanced communications capabilities of traditional VeriFone countertop systems, while providing a cradle for the hand-held unit that enables it to double as the clerk's user interface.
The Vx 810 DUET is a smart and powerful system that meets all consumer and merchant needs in one compact, easy-to-use device, with the full-function payment capabilities and reliability of VeriFone's Vx Solutions line. When cradled, the operation of the device mimics exactly the clerk-facing operation of VeriFone's Vx 510 and Vx 570 countertop devices, ensuring that the vast distribution network for those systems can sell and support the Vx 810 DUET with virtually no additional training or support costs.
"The ground-breaking Vx 810 DUET establishes a new benchmark of efficiency for merchant counter top systems. Without any compromises, it combines merchant countertop payment features with easy-to-use, consumer-friendly accommodation of PIN entry, card swipe, smart card, contactless and even mobile-phone initiated payment," said Paul Rasori, VeriFone vice president of global product marketing.
"This system will also advance adoption of secure PIN-debit acceptance by eliminating the additional expense of having to deploy a separate peripheral PIN pad to any given merchant," Rasori said.
The Vx 810 DUET supports a broad range of payment and value-added applications and meets the latest security standards, including PCI PED as well as EMV Level 1 and 2. It incorporates the Vx 810 PIN entry device announced last November with an attached base unit that features a thermal printer, high-speed modem, and multiple connectivity options with Ethernet, USB and serial ports.
The future-proof design of the Vx 810 DUET includes a Secure Digital Input Output (SDIO) port to support add-on components. A field upgradeable contactless payment module will provide merchants and banks an extremely cost-effective means to support any form of contactless payment whether presented via card, fob or NFC-enabled mobile device.
Utilizing VeriFone's patent-pending MAXui design, the ultra-sleek PIN entry unit combines the smallest footprint with the largest user interface in an ergonomic design with ATM-style interface, large keypad and high resolution, 16-line white backlit display for ease of use. A high-speed processor, large memory, multiple connectivity options and modular expansion capabilities ensure that the Vx 810 DUET will be a viable payment solution for years to come.
Separately, VeriFone Holdings (NYSE: PAY) today announced PAYware PC, the next generation of its popular PCCharge payment processing solution for standalone or integrated environments. PAYware PC provides end-to-end payment processing and customer management capabilities for small-to-medium-sized merchants of all types and a simple, yet highly-secure integration platform for developers.
PAYware PC features a sophisticated, streamlined user interface inspired by the 2007 Microsoft Office system. Colorful icons and dynamic menu screens provide easy access to all features and functions so users can quickly perform any task. Most tasks, such as settlement, contract processing, report generation, database backup and update download, can be performed automatically.
The solution offers developers a simpler and more secure integration, writing to a single API, and PAYware PC's Device Manager manages all interactions with payment devices and peripherals, simplifying integration for developers. PAYware PC can handle transactions in multiple formats and supports all electronic payment types.
"PAYware PC is a powerful, secure and easy-to-use solution out-of-the-box, but it also provides developers with a powerful platform for value-added applications," said Paul Rasori, VeriFone vice president of global product marketing. "It builds on the heritage of PCCharge, which has been integrated into more than 700 POS systems and deployed to more than 150,000 installations, and was designed to support the evolution of Microsoft Windows."
As a PABP-validated system, PAYware PC will help merchants achieve PCI DSS compliance. Built-in security safeguards shield and protect sensitive customer data. And administrator-level menu settings provide absolute control over database access and prevent misuse by eliminating any function from a worker's personalized interface. Advanced fraud protections help reduce the cost of card-not-present transactions and lower the risk of chargebacks.
Available immediately, PAYware PC is ideal for a wide variety of small-to-medium-sized brick-and-mortar retailers and restaurateurs, as well as e-commerce, mail-order/telephone order (MOTO) and B2B merchants. PAYware PC works with all versions of Microsoft Windows Vista as well as Windows XP Professional and Windows 2003 Server Edition.
