Scott Logic hires Amazon veteran Richard Smith as senior consultant

Scott Logic, which provides consultancy and bespoke software for the financial sector, has expanded its team with the appointment of Richard Smith in the role of Senior Consultant.

The company is pursuing an aggressive recruitment programme, with seven new-starts in the last two months alone. Richard's joins the Edinburgh office adding to an already experienced Scottish team.

Richard previously worked for Amazon, where he was the second hire at the company's Regional Development Centre in Edinburgh and was involved in a number of high profile, high revenue projects. With a website such as Amazon, Richard and his team were responsible for ensuring the systems were running 365x24x7.

Richard studied Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at The University of Edinburgh and then for a PhD in Genetic Algorithms. He has also worked as a Research Associate at the University and for IBM researching neural networks. Richard is now developing web-based tools on an award winning research platform for one of Scott Logic's investment banking clients. His current project allows the user to form opinions on future interest rates in the key markets according to historical economic data and a quantitative framework.
