The achievement of 1 million users highlights Lunar’s rapid growth and expanding influence in the Nordic banking landscape. This milestone is a testament to the trust and loyalty of its users, which is reflected in Lunar’s high Trustpilot scores of 4.6, and over 121 million transactions processed annually.

“Reaching 1 million users is more than just a number - it’s a reflection of the trust our users place in us, and the hard work of the entire Lunar team. It’s moments like these that remind us why we started this journey: to build something that truly works for people. We’re not just building a bank; we’re creating a financial ecosystem that puts people first, where everything we do is aimed at making banking smarter, faster, and more personalized,” says Ken Villum Klausen, CEO and Founder of Lunar.

The journey of Lunar: Growth and innovation

Lunar’s path to 1 million users has been driven by bold innovation and a commitment to redefining banking in the Nordics. Since its founding in 2015 in Aarhus, Lunar has aimed to disrupt traditional banking—securing its own banking license in 2019, expanding into Sweden and Norway, and introducing cutting-edge digital solutions.

Key milestones include the launch of Lunar Business in 2020, a crypto oering in 2022, a collaboration with Hollywood star Will Ferrell, the introduction of Scandinavia’s first SAS EuroBonus debit card in 2024, and the newly launched Lunar Youth, a banking app for kids and teenagers, in 2025. Lunar also recently introduced the in-app AI Assistant as well as Europe’s first AI Voice Assistant in customer service. Today, 70% of all written customer requests are handled entirely by AI.

“Looking ahead, we’re not slowing down. We’re committed to challenging the traditional banking landscape and becoming the go-to everyday bank for people across the Nordics. We’ll keep innovating and adding new features and services to empower consumers and businesses with smarter, more seamless financial solutions,” concludes Ken Villum Klausen.

Backed by €500 million in investments, Lunar has consistently pushed boundaries to redefine what users can expect from their bank. In 2024, Lunar took a significant step by transitioning its BaaS oering to a standalone entity called Moonrise. This move allows Lunar to further transform the banking landscape, opening its infrastructure to international challenger banks and fintechs and overcoming long-standing barriers to entry in the Nordic markets.
