Liquidnet recruits Morgan Stanley trading exec

Alex Grinfeld, an 11-year veteran and Executive Director at Morgan Stanley, has joined a noteworthy roster of senior futures sales-traders and analysts to have arrived at Liquidnet since 2022 as the technology-focused agency execution specialist, known for its dark pools, builds out its global listed derivatives offering.

Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, Grinfeld was a Vice President at Goldman Sachs for Futures and Derivatives Sales Trading.

He will co-head the rapidly growing futures business at Liquidnet in the Americas alongside Brian Cashin - hired from Bank of America - who joined Liquidnet in March 2022.

This comes as the firm recently launched solutions such as pre & point-of-trade analytics to help inform traders’ decision-making processes and support automation. Historically, banks have dominated the provision of solutions and executions to the buy side.

Mike du Plessis, Global Head of Listed Derivatives, said: “Alex joins us at an exciting time in our journey, his extensive experience will be integral as we launch new technology and further develop our execution services.”

These senior hires in the US reflect similar moves in Europe, where the firm hired Dan Noorian and Darren Smith from UBS 18 months ago to lead the then-recently established Liquidnet Listed Derivatives team in London. Like their Liquidnet Americas counterparts, the duo have serious futures heritage having racked up nearly 15 years each at the Swiss bank.
