Commonwealth Bank says the terminal is suitable for any business that operates in a wireless environment and the Optus network provides merchants with a secure way of processing payments, wherever they are.

Peter Roeleven, Commonwealth Bank's general manager, merchant acquiring, working capital services, says: "MobileComm GPRS allows mobile merchants the capability to process real-time card payments and reduce their cash handling risk, which is a major benefit to any mobile business."

Roeleven adds that the GPRS network also offers a lower cost structure and savings in communication costs.
