To use the system, a customer enters their mobile phone number, confirms the billing information and pays with their bank card. Customers paying paper bills will be able to scan the bar code from the invoice and pay with their card in the same way.

The terminals, which will be located at various department stores, hypermarkets and gas stations, will accept scanned invoices from Eurotel, Quatro and Zapadoslovenska energetika. All three firms participated in the pilot phase of the service. Eurotel customers will also be able to buy top-ups from the terminals.

Iveta Zikmundova, head of cash, trade and treasury services at Citibank Slovakia, says: "It (the terminal) is the first electronic device in Slovakia enabling bank card holders to pay invoices regardless of which bank holds his current account."
