The online service will be hosted in Cyota's Tokyo data centres and will be provided through the vendor's local partner in Japan, Intelligent Wave.

UC says it plans to integrate Verified by Visa authentication with its existing online verification processes, so that cardholders can use the same user name and password for both services.

Naftali Bennett, Cyota CEO, says: "UC cardholders will enjoy a highly localised system that was customised for Japan's unique requirements. UC merchants will enjoy a user-friendly, local 3D Secure merchant service."

Triangle Technologies, a Tokyo-based company that helps foreign technology companies penetrate the Japanese market, assisted Cyota in signing the distribution agreement with Intelligent Wave and in negotiating the contract with UC Card.
