South Africa's Standard Bank Group has licensed ACI Worldwide's Smart Chip Manager package for the issuing and processing of multi-application EMV smart cards.
Smart Chip Manager allows the bank to issue both single and multi-application chip cards and to add products to existing cards. The package includes online updating and card personalisation and management modules.
The group has so far used the software to issue a limited number of internal users with a MasterCard debit/credit card.
Alewyn Burger, executive director, Standard Bank, says: "ACI's Smart Chip Manager allows us to begin issuing credit-based single-application chip cards and acquiring transactions from them and then expand our offerings to multiple-application cards when it is appropriate for our customers."
