Visa licenses ACI solution for regional payments processing

Visa International has licensed ACI Worldwide's online transaction system Base24-es for its new regional processing platform, VisaNet Distributed Processing Solution (VDPS).

Visa says VDPS will allow non-US installing regions to have more control over VisaNet development and the implementation of financial products and services. The agreement with ACI enables deployment of VDPS in the European Union (EU) region by mid 2004.

Inder Singh, global chief information officer and executive vice president, Visa International, says: "The enhanced platform that includes Base24-es will allow us to reduce the length of development cycles, enhance our flexibility and simplify systems maintenance."

Base24-es provides integrated transaction services to acquire, authenticate, route, switch and authorise transactions across multiple delivery channels and will be customised to meet Visa's volume, scalability, reliability, and functionality requirement.

Sun Microsystems will provide both hardware and its Solaris operating system for the project and Deloitte Consulting will be the prime systems integrator.

In a prototype phase, ACI says it worked with both Deloitte and Sun to verify the system could meet Visa's requirements for scalability, throughput, reliability and flexibilty, which is especially important in high-growth, high-volume regions like the EU, where the platform must support multiple currencies, regulatory environments and product issuance strategies.
