The technology provides online access to customer data and documents and enables real-time indexing, compression, storage and retrieval of high-resolution business documents. Documents can be stored in their native print and rendered in real time in a preferred format.

The bank says it chose to install the system in-house - rather than outsource its document management operations - to improve customer services. Staff will be able to search for documents in the online archive quickly, using names and account numbers.

Implementation and ongoing maintenance and management for the product will be provided by the vendor's Dutch partner Document Dialog. Phase one of the deployment will be primarily focussed on building a flexible and up-to-date digital archive.

Paul Webb, vice president, sales and marketing Emea, Group 1 Software, says: "Each year Staalbankiers send out approximately 700,000 pieces of mail. If they were to send out just 10% of these digitally, the saving would cover the cost of their investment."

The bank is the first in Holland to license the document management software.
