DataSynapse's LiveCluster Grid computing infrastructure harnesses idle computer power for use in compute-intensive number crunching applications.

Rich Lechner, vice president, IBM Enterprise Servers, says the combination of DataSynapse's application-centric Grid middleware and the IBM eServer zSeries allows firms to implement a virtual Grid application environment built on the IBM mainframe.

"By combining LiveCluster's workload balancing technology with the mainframe's advanced autonomic capabilities, enterprises can rapidly direct processing power on the Grid to their highest priority applications," says Lechner.

The system is currently being tested at multiple sites.
