American Express has launched an online charity portal, allowing US customers to donate money to over 800,000 charity organisations in one location.
Timed to coincide with Christmas, the donation site will enable consumers to search and select charities from a database of 800,000 non-profit organisations registered with the US Internal Revenue Service.
Once donors have submitted payment details online they will receive confirmation of the transaction and an e-mail receipt.
The company says the system will also enable customers to make contributions to multiple charities in a single transaction.
According to an American Express survey of 800 US consumers, 76 per cent plan to give to charity this Christmas with the average donation expected to be US$125.
