Fibernet will provide a network incorporating the bank's call centres, main computer centre, fraud operations site, clearing centre, overseas financial services centre and Internet banking arm Smile.

Keith Girling, director of technology, Co-operative Bank, says: "Fibernet’s solution enabled us to provide our main sites with IP connectivity. This flexibility and scalability can only be achieved via an optical network and provides us with a managed solution scaleable to multi-gigabit levels."

The system will also allow the bank to rearrange its business architecture and introduce VoIP across the network, says Fibernet.
