The new card channels all applications, statements and administration through the Internet. Payments are made by direct debit or online and queries handled by e-mail.

Taking advantage of the lower costs of the Internet as a distribution channel, h2X offers 9.9% APR plus 0% interest on balance transfers for five months.

The bank has also announced that it is launching an online comparative shopping site with DealTime.co.uk and available at www.halifaxshoppingextra.co.uk.

High street rival Barclays currently offers an equivalent service through its acquisition last year of the ShopSmart online portal.
