IPC initiates trader desktop development contest

IPC Information Systems has announced a software development contest to create innovative, value-added applications for traders that integrate directly onto the IQMX trading desktop.

The contest involves designing Java and browser-based HTML or XML applications that conform to IPC's standards-based application program interface (API) allowing full integration with the vendor's new Internet Protocol (IP)-based IQMX trading system.

Registration for the contest runs until 15 August, 2002. Cash prizes are to be awarded to the top two entries on 15 December, 2002. Evaluation criteria include market applicability, ease of use of the interface, ease of installation, application documentation and ease of integration with the IQMX trading system, which is already being deployed in trading rooms around the world.

"The application possibilities are endless with IPC's API," declares Greg Kenepp, IPC's president. "Using common programming languages such as Java, XML or HTML, new applications can be designed that allow traders to do a variety of things right from the turret desktop - from viewing a stock quote to accessing contact information for a client to writing out the deal ticket and closing the trade."

IPC recently released its first application that conforms to the API, known as TraderVision desktop video, that integrates with the IQMX trading platform to deliver news and information video directly to traders' desktops. IPC's portfolio also includes the newly launched ICMX Intercom Module for instant communications between the trading desktop and the back office.

The developer's contest is open to qualified Java and Web-based applications software developers. All contestants will receive a software developer's kit that includes an API simulator, plus access to software and documentation for the API. Developers can register for the contest online from IPC's Internet site.
