Using Focus Solutions' XML-based toolkit, Legal & General will upgrade its Mortgage Decisions point-of-sale solution to enable agents to process applications entirely electronically.

The new system will ensure that customer information is collected and validated offline throughout the various stages of the mortgage and mortgage-related advisory and application process. This will save time and reduce errors significantly by ensuring only complete, correct applications and proposals which are right first time are then submitted online, says the company. Data is keyed in only once and re-used across all related applications.

Legal & General also has recently deployed goal: technology within its e-Protection Choices package. This enables IFAs and tied agents to electronically complete and submit proposals to the company.

Margaret Smith, director, business information systems at Legal & General, comments: "Doing more business electronically brings real benefits in terms of speed, efficiency and cost saving. It means we can roll out new products and handle incoming applications much more quickly than before."
