First Data bolsters European management; names new smart card VP

First Data has named Francois Dutray as senior vice president of global smart cards and appointed three new hires to its European management team.

In his new role, Dutray will be responsible for building a worldwide end-to-end chip enabled solution that supports multi-application card issuance and the authentication and authorisation of transaction processing through chip-enabled point-of-sale terminals and on the Internet.

He joins the company following three years as vice president and general manager of worldwide smart card solutions at Motorola. Prior to this he worked at Visa International.

Richard Cooper has been appointed to the new post of client consultancy director at First Data Europe (FDE) where he takes responsibility for product management and marketing. He previously was vice president, consumer market development at Visa International, and has also worked for British Airways.

Patrick Abrines joins FDE as regional director, responsible for sales and relationships in Southern Europe and the Middle East. Most recently Abrines ran his own company offering consultancy services to financial institutions (payments systems) and telecommunications companies (m-commerce and prepaid mobile recharges) in Southern Europe. He has also held positions with Visa International and National Data Corporation.

Robert Craig has been named client management director of FDE. His appointment follows an eleven-year stint at American Express, in which time he was promoted to head of business planning and development on the leadership team of its European merchant acquiring business.
