Over the four years covered by the agreement the companies predict sales of between EUR20 - 25 million.

Ian Robson, managing director of Oberthur Card Systems for the Northern Europe region, says: "Scandinavia has long been a leading market for smart card technology...Successfully delivering within this key market, however, requires both cutting edge solutions and customised local services."

Oberthur is also reporting fourth quarter 2001 revenue at EUR144.9 million, representing a 30% increase over third quarter 2001, while down 2% from Q4 2000.

On a yearly basis, revenue stands at EUR484.2 million, showing a 7.3% increase on 2000 sales. Payment cards sales, boosted by the EMV migration programme in the United Kingdom, increased by 40%.

The company says it expects continued growth in payment and security cards markets, compared with a steady market for SIM cards during the coming year.
