PayPal adds American Express and Discover Card

PayPal customers can now use American Express and Discover Card to fund their online person-to-person payment transactions.

The link-up with American Express and Discover Card extends the payment options open to PayPal's 12 million users, supplementing existing agreements with Visa and MasterCard. Users may also fund transactions via a direct link to their bank accounts.

Billpoint, a rival service backed by online auction house eBay, currently accepts Discover Cards only. C2it, the Citibank service which is vyeing with PayPal for auction house business, accepts neither Discover nor American Express.

PayPal says its members currently send more than $10 million per day in approximately 200,000 daily transactions.
