The cards feature Keycorp's 32K Multos smartcard operating system running on an Infineon chip platform, as well as M/CHIP Select (MasterCard credit and debit application) and the Mondex electronic purse. The cards also carry a national digital ID certificate.

"Asia is a very dynamic smart card market," says GM-Smartcard Technologies, Richard Cusson of Keycorp. "We expect these orders to be the first in a growing number of deals in the Asia-Pacific, as card issuers and acquirers embrace smartcard technology and MULTOS in the region."

The current order is expected to be completed by the end of April 2002.

The deal is part of Keycorp's alliance with MasterCard, announced in December 2000, to introduce 15 million smartcards by 2003.
