Firms can use their sole or joint administrator's digital certificate, issued by Spain's National Mint and Stamp Factory, to sign up for an account without filling any physical paperwork or visiting a branch.

BBVA says it is the first bank in Spain to offer a purely online onboarding process and hopes the system will give it an edge in attracting clients. Since introducing digital account opening for consumers three years ago, more than 30% of new customers have used the option.

Oscar Vélez de Mendizábal, head, business transformation factory, BBVA, says: "We have managed to launch a truly simple, fast process for companies who want to become BBVA clients. Furthermore, it is a solid and rigorous process, in full compliance with current legislation and with the highest standards of security."
