Royal Bank of Scotland is struggling to fix an IT glitch that has left credit card customers unable to access their accounts and pay off any outstanding balances.

Acknowledging the problem, RBS says: "Some customers are unable to view credit card information on online and mobile banking.

"We are also experiencing some problems with our telephony service for credit cards, which is limiting our ability to assist customers over the phone."

The outage comes at an unfortunate time, coinciding with the monthly deadline for customers to pay off balances without incurring penalty charges.

"We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause," states the bank. "We are working to resolve these problems as quickly as possible."
