Microsoft Wallet will be "officially retired" on 28 February as Windows 10 Mobile itself gets ready to croak at the end of the year.

Similar to Apple Pay and Google Pay, Microsoft Wallet promised to bring the convenience of contactless payments to mobile phones when it launched in 2016.

However, the app only supported a handful of doomed Windows phones and so failed to gain traction.

Microsoft Pay continues to limp along as a payments option for the firm's Edge browser.
