Based in Singapore, De Jong will report to Lisa Robins, global head, Transaction Banking. He will be responsibile for leading the Transaction Banking division's digital and innovation agenda, which the bank describes as one of its top priorities.

It cites recent collaboratons with Siemens Financial Services and TradeIX for a blackchain-based trade finance proposition and a partnership with Ant Financial for a blockchain-based cross-border remittance service as evidence of its commitment to digital transacton banking initiatives.

However, the growth of its digital banking projects has led to a reduction in head count in some of its international offices. In December SC announced the axing of 200 jobs in its Mumbai office.

Prior to his new role at SC, De Jong was chief digital officer for global insurer Aegon and he has also held simialr roles at telcos incouding Vodafone where he led its digital transformation project.
