Swedbank's "Banken via Mobilt Internet" programme supports PocketPC, Symbian and Palm mobile platforms, as well as WAP-based moblie phones, GSM, GPRS and other IP-based networks such as wireless LAN.

The companies intend to deliver a fully-functioning 'always available' mobile banking solution in the early part of next year. The system will enable Swedbank’s one million Internet banking customers to access their financial portfolio and perform transactions regardless of wireless coverage. When a wireless network connection is not available, the application stores the transactions for later synchronisation over the wireless network.

“The fact that we recently signed our one millionth Internet banking customer in Sweden demonstrates the growing interest in new technologies for accessing and managing critical financial information and applications," says Håkan Nyberg, senior vice president and head of Internet banking at Swedbank.

According to Carl Björkman, business development manager for financial services at iAnywhere Solutions, the company is currently working with a number of banks globally to further develop and implement its mobile banking solution.
