According to Bleeping Computer, Exobot's source code was put up for sale in January, indicating that its creators were abandoning it.

Version 2.5 of the code, dubbed the 'Trump Edition', leaked online in May and has since made its way onto hacking forums, raising the possibility of a surge in malicious Android apps.

Once uploaded, the code uses overlay attacks to steal a user's credentials whenever the infected device lands on a banking website.

Security researchers told Bleeping Computer that the Trojan is likely to prove popular with crooks now that it is out in the wild, in part because it is an effective tool.
