Passengers travelling through Amsterdam's busy international air terminal Schipol are being offered the chance to exchange their leftover euros for bitcoin or ethereum at a cyptocurrency ATM.

The kiosk, supplied by Dutch company ByeleX Data Solutions, is being located in a high footfall location criss-crossing arrival and departure halls on a six-month trial period.

Tanja Dik, director of consumer products & services at Schiphol, says: “With the Bitcoin ATM, we hope to provide a useful service to passengers by allowing them to easily exchange ‘local’ euros for the ‘global’ cryptocurrencies bitcoin and ethereum. That can be beneficial if, for instance, it’s not possible to spend euros in their home country.”

Earlier this year Brisbane Airport kicked off a programme to let passengers pay for their purchases at a number of terminal shops with bitcoin, dash, ethereum and other cryptocurrencies.
