European banks trial SunGard integrated risk system

SunGard Trading and Risk Systems has integrated its Panorama and BancWare products to provide enterprise-wide risk management across the banking and trading book.

Three Swiss banks - Aargauische Kantonalbank, Basellandschaftliche Kantonalbank, Migrosbank and Lichtenstein's VP Bank Group - have selected the joint solution in which Panorama, SunGard's real-time cross-asset trading and risk management system, is integrated with BancWare, the company's asset liability management software.

SunGard says the Panorama/BancWare solution provides a consolidated view of risk for instruments that are on and off balance sheet, provding a common approach to risk management that results in the ability to more effectively allocate capital, make projections and report risk.

The risk management departments of all three Swiss banks are using the integrated solution to generate a firm-wide view of risk, across the trading and banking book, for a wide range of instruments (FX, MM, fixed income, equities and respective derivatives). This combined SunGard solution meets the legal risk reporting requirements for all three banks with the integration of Abacus, a KPMG-supplied software solution for legal reporting of market risk.

Lichtenstein's VP Bank Group, with CHF31 assets under management, is to use the integrated SunGard system to manage market, credit, liquidity, operational and interest rate risk across its entire operation.
