The "experimental" TapHero system combines elements of card-present and card-not-present payments. The phone reads payment data from a card's chip and auto-populates all the required fields. Meanwhile, a feature layer simulates a card-present payment, for increased security.

Ingenico says TapHero is easy for merchants to integrate into their checkout pages and automatically detects the presence of an NFC reader. Customers don't need to download anything or create an account.

"Mobile commerce is here, and will continue to drive our industry forward. Yet we see many online businesses struggle to really take full advantage of that opportunity," says Ludovic Houri, VP, products, Ingenico ePayments.

"Leveraging our deep expertise and leadership in contactless and EMV payments will allow us to provide a real breakthrough in user experience to drive conversion above and beyond what merchants were used to."
