German mPOS vendor payleven has reached a European distribution deal with American Express to offer a free Chip and PIN card reader and credit card package for small businesses.
The agreement, believed to be the first between an mPOS provider and card issuing company, will see the payleven card reader bundled with an American Express Business Gold Card.
Konstantin Wolff, managing director and co-founder of payleven, says: "With the partnership, entrepreneurs are perfectly equipped for their everyday business. The business bundle contains technology to securely accept card payments, as well as a flexible credit card that is specifically tailored to their needs."
Currently operating in eleven markets, payleven operates a pay-as-you-go pricing model, with additional bolt-ons such as real-time sales statistics and the ability to print or email customer receipts.
The American Express package deal will initially be made available to small business firms operating in Germany.
Amex has no equity in payleven, although it has previously invested in Swedish mPOS provider iZettle, London-based SumUp and India's ezetap.
