Thomson Reuters is planning to tap into Canada's startup community with the opening of a data and innovation lab in Waterloo, Ontario.
The financial data giant will set up camp at Communitech, an industry-led innovation centre of nearly 1000 companies, and work with the University of Waterloo, tapping into a pool of mathematical and computer science talent to put new technologies into practice.
Meanwhile, the site will be a base for staffers working on applied research and experimentation on Thomson Reuters' vast and unique data sets.
Jim Smith, CEO, Thomson Reuters, says: "Thomson Reuters Labs will be an engine of innovation for our company, bringing together our unrivalled information assets and industry expertise with experts who can help make those assets increasingly actionable for our customers."
