in the build up to the Red Nose Day telethon next month, larger than life replicas of the likes of Billy Connolly, David Walliams and Dawn French are making their way to shopping centres across the UK.

Through a deal with Barclays, people will be able to tap their cards on the comedians’ pocket to donate £1 to Red Nose Day. Donations can also be made through the Barclays Pingit app.

Last year Zenon Hannick, agile project manager for Comic Relief, told Finextra that the charity was looking into accepting bitcoin donations. However, the option has not yet materialised.

Sounds like an excellent idea to me!

I think that people are much more likely to donate when there's some kind of novelty involved, much like when you could first donate via text message. It'll make contactless much more prominant to people who usually wouldn't use it at a till also. Win/Win in my opinion.

I'll definitely give it a go when/if I walk past one.
