YouTube has introduced a feature which enables viewers to make donations to their favourite content creators through Google Wallet.
The Fan Funding tool, picked up by Android Police, gives YouTube's video producers the option to embed a small icon in the top left-hand corner of their videos.
When a viewer hovers over or clicks the icon they see a message asking if they would like to support the video's creator. If they click through, they are given an option of how much to donate and taken to a Google Wallet page to complete a payment. Google-owned YouTube takes a cut of five per cent plus 21 cents in the US.
The feature works when viewers are watching using a web browser and through the YouTube Android app but is currently restricted to the US, Japan, Australia and Mexico.
