Bartkiewicz began his ING career in 1991 at the bank's Polish subsidiary. In 2000 he became general manager of ING Direct, responsible for rolling out the online banking model around the world. He returned to Poland as CEO of ING Bank Śląski in 2004 before taking on his current position of CEO for 'rest of Europe'.

In his new role, Bartkiewicz will be responsible for driving ING's strategic innovation agenda, developing and promoting new ideas and applying new technologies.

Ralph Hamers, CEO, ING Group, says: "Brunon is one of the architects of the ING Direct banking model and has a track record in building and transforming banks. I am convinced he will drive our strategic innovation agenda and think beyond traditional banking to serve changing customer needs."
