BBVA and Google are calling on developers to enter a competition to develop business productivity applications for SMEs and entrepreneurs in Spain and Latin America.
The InnovaApps+ competition is challenging programmers to build apps using Google technologies, either in the cloud (AppScript and Cloud Platform) or on mobile devices (Android) and social media (Google+).
Participants can choose to develop apps in one of categories: internal management, organisation, customer relations, and a special BBVA section for apps which "provide new added value for the bank's internal use and integrates with the Google Apps already in use by employees".
Registration for competition closes on 30 May and then a panel from BBVA and Google will pick the top three efforts in all four categories, divvying up a EUR40,000 prize fund.
The apps developed by contestants will be available under an open code license, so firms can use them, modifying and adapting them to their specific needs.
BBVA's Gustavo Vinacua says: "This competition aims to promote the talent of developers' communities worldwide, but particularly in Spain and Latin America. The value propositions generated in InnovaApps+ may be applied both in BBVA and in any other business, thanks to its model based on open software."
