Mobile contactless payments may be struggling to take off but Allied Irish Bank has found a use for NFC technology, tapping it for an advertising campaign for a new P2P payments service.
The Me2U Android and iOS app lets registered phone and Internet customers send money from their Visa card to a recipient's card by entering their mobile phone number.
To promote the app, AIB has plastered bus shelters, cinema lobbies and phone kiosks around Ireland with sheets containing NFC tags. When an NFC-enabled phone is tapped to the tags, the user is taken to the Apple or Android app store from where they can download Me2U.
