UK building society Nationwide has introduced online car insurance from its Web site. Users can obtain a quick estimate and full quote as well as buy online.
In rolling out the service, the building society cites Mori research which indicates that about 20% of Internet users, or 2.9m people in the UK, have already searched for cover over the Internet and about 500,000 have bought online.
Nationwide's online premiums and benefits are the same as those offered via its existing telephone-based service.
