An application that uses mobile geopositioning to locate la Caixa customer retailers and to share information about them via social networks has won the EUR10,000 prize for the best widget created during the Spanish bank's second annual FinAppsParty.
FinAppsParty is a financial services mobile application programming marathon
organised by la Caixa in Barcelona in partnership with the Barcelona Digital Centre Tecnològic. Participants have 24 hours to develop new applications with the potential to provide innovative mobile banking services.
Teams taking part in FinAppsParty hailed from both Spain and abroad, including representatives from Mexico, Kenya, Israel and the United Kingdom. The winning application was devised by a team of two programmers, Valentí Freixanet and Erola Rabat, within the 24-hour timeframe.
An application which uses NFC and Bluetooth for P2P bill-splitting and funds collection won the EUR2000 runner-up prize. A third prize of EUR2000 was won by a team who created an electronic payment system for retailers based on 3D animations and elements borrowed from videogames.
La Caixa says it will assess the winning ideas with a view to potentially adopting them commercially.
