Estimize, a US start-up that pools members' forecasts for earnings results at listed companies, has launched a competition offering cash prizes to its most accurate pickers.
Founded by former StockTwits man Leigh Drogen, Estimize opened up in beta late last year, inviting members to predict quarterly revenue and earnings per share results for companies.
Leaderboards show how users' predictions stack up over time, giving members a picture of who to follow for guidance on different stocks. The site says that by crowdsourcing estimates, its aggregated results outperform Wall Street 63% of the time.
It has now secured $10,000 from Nasdaq OMX, Super Stock Jockey and Investors Business Daily for the Estimize Challenges, each of which require contestants to make predictions for at least 15 of 30 stocks which report earnings this quarter between 16 April and 30 May. The winners each get a slice of the cash and a badge on their profiles.
